Hawaiian Food Story
To understand Hawaiian food, you have to know a little context and history. Between 1780 and 1906 there were seven major cultural influences in the cuisine. Local Hawaiians, Westerners(English, Irish, American), Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Koreans, and Filipinos. This blending of cultures has melded together to become “Local Hawaiian Cuisine” or “Kama’aina Grinds”. Local Hawaiian people have created a sustainable food culture with available products: Ahi Tuna, Pork, Potatoes, Taro, Cabbage, Chicken, Rice, Coffee, Pineapple, Cattle and Shrimp.
